Text Box: Are You Prepared To Refuse To Be A Victim?
Text Box: This National Rifle Association self defense program is one of many that WTA offers to its members and the public, however, this one is our main focus. We have certified NRA instructors, and encourage our members to become instructors as well. The principles discussed apply to all ages and all situations, and this seminar is widely respected and taught by law enforcement nationwide. Be sure to check our seminar schedule on our calendar page each month, and email us for further details. Also, the NRA website link will list the seminars available nationwide.

Q: What is the Refuse To Be A Victim® program?
A: Refuse To Be A Victim® is a three to four hour seminar geared toward awareness and prevention of criminal confrontations. Topics include home, automobile and personal safety. We show how to integrate common-sense safety strategies into your own individual lifestyle. The seminar is not about guns, nor is it about joining the NRA. It simply provides participants with the information needed to minimize their chances of criminal attack.
Q: Is this a self-defense course?
A: It is a personal-safety program that teaches strategies you can use to avoid ever being in a situation where self defense is required. This course focuses on pro-active rather than reactive courses of action. Criminals prefer easy targets. By making yourself more difficult to prey upon, you lessen your risk of criminal attack. That means having a personal safety strategy in place before you need it.
Q: Is there a fee and what does it cover?
A: Seminar fees range between $0 and $20 per person, and cover instructor time, a 79-page Refuse To Be A Victim® student handbook, and a brochure entitled Refuse To Be A Victim®: Your Key to Crime Prevention and Personal Safety. Seminars can also be held free of charge by an NRA Foundation State Fund Committee grant; for more information on scheduling a grant-sponsored seminar, call 1-800-861-1166.
Q: How many people may attend the seminar?
A: There is no limit to the number of seminar participants, however, we have found that smaller groups (30 to 40 participants) are more manageable and allow everyone to voice concerns and raise questions. Women-only and co-ed seminars are available.
Q: Where and how many seminars have been conducted?
A: The Refuse To Be A Victim® program has been conducted in 48 states and the District of Columbia since its inception in 1993. There are more than 1,900 instructors in 48 states. As we continue expanding the program and instructor base, we anticipate bringing this public service message to every state.
