Have you ever considered how you would protect yourself if confronted with criminal danger?  If the answer is no, I highly recommend that you  start thinking about it now.  Situational awareness (realizing a possible threat) and situational preparedness (what would you do if..) are your best defenses. But you should also consider what type of weapon, or to be more politically correct, self defense product, you might consider buying and using.  Each month we will explore the different types of self defense products available.

Just about everyone has heard of tasers; a handheld, battery run and trigger activated device that works by dumping large amounts of electrical current into the muscles of the body which temporarily disables them. The name is an acronym for the Thomas A. Swift Electric Rifle from a children's novel.

About a year ago, I had a conversation with a very fine firearm and self defense instructor about his experience with a taser strike during training.  Everyone in the class was to experience a very brief shot from a small taser,  and my friend was the first to be chosen for this task.  He told me that it was one of the worst experiences of his life.  The pain was excruciating, debilitating, and embarrassing. He could not control his bodily functions and relieved himself in his pants while writhing in pain on the floor.  The rest of the class felt that the demonstration on my friend was adequate.

Tasers come in may sizes and price ranges; from $20.00 to $1,000.00 for Taser International’s Citizen Taser X26.  This model looks very much like a handgun, but with a few interesting differences.

WE NEED MORE WOMEN TO LEARN & HAVE FUN!

Women Taking Aim is a growing organization that needs your help.  We need to spread our programs to all fifty states so that women can compete in “women-only” tournaments and learn in seminars designed especially for their needs.  If you know of a local range who would be interested in sponsoring a new chapter, please contact our headquarters.  We will be happy to help every way we can to start a new chapter in that area!
